More than a ton of cardboard, 52,000 pounds of paper, 200 computer hard-drives and 100 Christmas trees were shredded, mulched and recycled during last Friday’s “I Recycle Phoenix Festival,” presented by the city’s Public Works Department, Keep Phoenix Beautiful and dozens of other local organizations.
On Dec. 30, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., nearly 1,500 vehicles passed through the parking lot at the northwest corner of Seventh Avenue and Camelback Road during this free recycle-palooza.
“The community response to this event far exceeded our expectations and reinforced our belief that working together we can change the way we dispose of trash,” said John Trujillo, acting Public Works Director for the city of Phoenix.
Participating organizations included: city of Phoenix, Keep Phoenix Beautiful, Earth 911, Westech Recyclers, Goodwill Arizona, Batteries Plus, SRP, Arizona Public Service, Verizon Wireless, Arizona Center for the Blind, OfficeMax, American Textile Recycling Services, DEX and many others.
